What resolution do files need to be for large format printing?
Roughly 100 to 150 DPI at final print size is sufficient for large format, since viewing distance is greater. A 24x36 poster needs about a 2400x3600 pixel image at minimum. Vector artwork scales without limit and is always preferable for type and logos.
Should a poster be laminated?
Laminate if it will be handled, displayed under bright light, or used repeatedly. Matte or anti-glare laminate also helps readability under conference-hall lighting. For a single-use event poster it is usually unnecessary spend.
What is the best stock for an academic or conference poster?
Matte or satin poster paper for handling and glare, or fabric if it needs to fold into luggage rather than travel in a tube. Confirm the conference's size specification first, since submission requirements vary and an oversized poster may not fit the assigned board.
Can large format posters be mounted?
Yes, foam board for lightweight temporary display, Gatorboard for a rigid surface that resists warping, or PVC for longer-term installation. Mounted posters look considerably more finished on an easel than paper does.
How large can a single poster be printed?
Wide-format presses commonly handle widths up to about 60 inches with effectively unlimited length. Beyond that, graphics are tiled into panels. If you need something wall-scale, that becomes a wall mural rather than a poster and gets specified differently.
