Questions we get

Boxes & Packaging FAQs.

What is the minimum order for custom printed boxes?

Structure-dependent. Standard structures like roll end tuck top and cube boxes start in the low hundreds. Fully custom die-cut boxes carry a die-line and tooling cost that makes runs below roughly 500 hard to justify per unit. We will show you where the break points fall.

What is a die-line and do I need one?

A die-line is the flat template showing every cut, fold and glue area for a box structure. Any custom box needs one, and it has to be right before printing, since a design that looks correct flat can leave panels upside down when assembled. We build die-lines as part of packaging projects.

How do I keep shipping costs down with custom packaging?

Design to dimensional weight rather than to appearance. Carriers bill on volume as well as actual weight, so an oversized box with void fill costs real money on every shipment. Sizing the structure closely to the product usually saves more annually than the packaging costs.

What is a roll end tuck top box?

A mailer-style structure that folds and locks without glue, with a hinged lid that tucks closed. It is the most common ecommerce mailer because it assembles flat-to-formed by hand in seconds, ships flat and protects well without tape on the seams.

Can you match my brand colors exactly on packaging?

Close, though understand that the same color prints differently on kraft, coated white and uncoated stock. We will tell you before the run how your color is likely to shift on the substrate you have chosen, and where the difference matters we will recommend a stock that holds it. Expecting an exact screen-to-kraft match is where packaging disappointments come from.
