Get recommended, not just indexed.

When someone asks an assistant to recommend a firm, the answer draws on a narrow set of sources it considers trustworthy on that topic. GEO is the work of becoming one of them: present in the places these systems retrieve from, described consistently, and positioned clearly enough that a model can tell what you do and who you do it for.

Questions we get

Generative Engine Optimization FAQs.

How do AI assistants decide which businesses to recommend?

They synthesize from sources they treat as authoritative on the topic, established publications, industry bodies, review platforms, comparison content and your own site. Consistency matters enormously: a business described the same way across many sources is easier for a model to recommend confidently.

Can I pay to appear in AI recommendations?

Not for the organic generated answer, no. Some assistants are introducing separate advertising products, but those are labeled placements rather than the recommendation itself. Anyone offering to insert you into ChatGPT's organic answers for a fee does not have that ability.

Why does an assistant recommend my competitor and not me?

Usually because the competitor appears in more of the sources it retrieves from, is described more consistently, or has clearer positioning about who they serve. Occasionally it is simpler than that: their site blocks AI crawlers less, or yours has no content addressing the question being asked.

How is GEO different from AEO?

AEO focuses on being extracted as the answer to a specific question. GEO focuses on being included and cited when the model generates a broader response, particularly recommendations and comparisons. They overlap heavily and most engagements involve both.

How long before GEO work shows results?

Site-side changes can surface within weeks in tools that retrieve live. Shifts driven by third-party sources and entity consistency take longer. Commonly 3 to 6 months, because those sources have to be updated and then reflected in what the systems retrieve.
